1 What Happens When Matter Is Heated or Cooled?
By: Mr. Leslie’s Class

2 Heating and Cooling Matter
Heating and cooling matter changes the motion of its particles and the spacing between them.

3 Thermal Energy and Matter
Thermal Energy is the total energy of the particles of matter. Thermal energy is related to the energy of the moving particles. Imagine that marbles are the particles of matter.

4 What does Thermal Energy look like?
Thermal energy can be added to matter. It can also be taken away. You cannot see thermal energy, but you can feel it as heat. HEAT – is the flow of thermal energy from a warmer area to a cooler area.

5 Temperature Is the measure of how hot or cold matter is. It also describes how fast the particles of matter are moving. Particles of matter move slower at lower temperatures and faster at higher temperatures Add Heat (Thermal Energy) Solid Liquid Gas

6 How do people measure temperature?
The Celsius scale and the Fahrenheit scale. Boiling point Celsius is 100ºC Fahrenheit is 212ºF Freezing Point Celsius is 0ºC Fahrenheit is 32ºF

7 Changes in State solid liquid melting freezing gas boiling
Starts from: Change to: Name solid liquid melting freezing gas boiling condensation 3 states of matter video states of matter song

8 Matter Stays the Same…
