3 The Principles of the Programme n To raise awareness of vital importance of conservation of trout and its habitat among competitors and general public “WATER THAT IS GOOD FOR TROUT IS ALSO GOOD FOR HUMAN BEEINGS” n To share information about local achievements in conservation, applicable internationally

5 FIPS-MOUCHE CONSERVATION SYMPOSIA n n 1993 Canada“Clean Water – Wild Trout” n n Beginning of the programme n n Presented by Province of British Columbia and Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks - Fisheries Branch

6 FIPS-MOUCHE CONSERVATION SYMPOSIA A half day event with the programme built around: n n The Importance of Cold, Clean Water Resources n n Risks of pollution and of the exploitation of natural resources n n Habitat Management n n Wild Trout, Atlantic Salmon and Steelhead Resources

7 Kamloops, Canada, 1993 One of the conditions of Hosting a WFFC and Conservation Symposium was a significant contribution to the Heritage Fund for Conservation 50% of the Fund was to be used by a Kamloops Conservation Committee; 50% of the Fund was to be used by Fly Fishing Canada for Conservation projects across Canada.

8 Kamloops, Canada, 1993 Kamloops, Canada, 1993 Part of the Kamloops portion was used for a scholarship for conservation studies.The fund has increased by 50%, in spite of awarding scholarships annually for the past 10 years. The rest was used by Kamloops as seed money to build an access & casting pier for the handicapped on Lac La Juene

9 Kamloops, Canada, 1993 Kamloops, Canada, 1993 FFC has used the funding as seed money to attract partners into several major projects including Creel Census, Exceptional Waters, Fly Fishing Schools for Youth, etc. FFC have also sponsored many fly fishing clubs for adults & high schools, on condition that they have a conservation project within a year.

10 Kamloops, Canada, 1993 Kamloops, Canada, 1993 All the recipients are told that the source of the funds was the 13th FIPS-Mouche World Fly Fishing Championship & Conservation Symposium held in Kamloops, BC in 1993. It not only promotes acceptance of the Championships, but brings in additional conservation donations.

13 Galway, Ireland, 1995 Resolution of the Symposium Attendees sent to the Prime Minister of Ireland pointing out n n the importance of sport fishing and sea trout resources to the tourist industry, n n the risks of pollution and damage caused by salmon farms requesting the Government to apply “rigid controls, inspections and penalties for any infraction by fish farms which may cause damage to the sea trout and pollution of the water”
