The Americans needed more workers!
Africans had been exposed to European diseases and had immunities
They had experience in farming
Did not know the land so could not escape

Between nearly 300,000 African slaves were transported to America
1.3 Million by 1700 and 9.5 Million by 1870!
Many African rulers and merchants played willing roles in the slave trade!

The global transfer of goods during the colonization of America is known as the Columbian Exchange.
American ships and European ships would bring things to each other they have never seen.
Also led to the transfer of many deadly diseases.
