Radiologic Technologists are the largest group of allied health professionals in the country Did You Know...?
10
What is a RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST? An important member of the HEALTH CARE TEAM Uses RADIATION to create IMAGES of the human body for medical diagnosis and treatment of disease or illness
11
WHY CHOOSE RADIOGRAPHY? ISN’T IT DANGEROUS?

44
What can you do NOW to prepare for a career in the Health Sciences? COURSE REQUIREMENTS
45
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE? IN ABOUT 3 – 4 YEARS (1-2 YRS GENERAL ED COURSES) 2 YRS FOR RT PROGRAM (MUST BE 24 MONTHS FOR FULL ACCREDIATION)
46
HOW MUCH $$$$$$ to attend ECC $26/unit End of program = 91 units + ( $2400.00) APPROXIMATE PROGRAM TOTAL = $3,000 High School (210 units) = free University $110/unit to $1000/unit Private RT Schools ~ $15,000 to - $30,000
47
El Camino College Application Prerequisite Courses New Class FALL 2009 Anatomy & Physio 34A & 34B (Chem prereq) or ANATOMY 32 (4units) (NOT Anat.30 !) & PHYSIOLOGY 31 (4units) –(Anat &Chemistry 20 21a or 4) INTRODUCTION - RAD TECH A
48
Anatomy & Physio MUST BE A TOTAL OF 8 UNITS Combo classes of 4, 5 or 6* units WILL not meet the requirement (ex Anat 30) With a 6 unit you may be able to get a credit for Physio – but will still have to take a 4 UNIT Anatomy class
49
MAJOR (minimum grade of “C”) GENERAL EDUCATION English 1A Intermediate Algebra- Math 70 or 73 or 80 CIS 13Humanities- one course Psychology 5 (will now meet Be/SoSci) Contemporary Health 1 or 3 units of PE Medical Terminology 1 (helpful to take before Anatomy – if possible) 2009 AS Degree ALL courses must be completed prior to STARTING the RT Program
50
Suggested Ed Plan: Complete Anat/Physio/RTEC A to file an application Then work towards completing other courses on the list while on the waiting list* ALL courses on course evaluation sheet Must be completed prior to STARTING the RT Program
51
FAQ’S: WAITING LIST? Yes there is one – you can get your name on the list when you file an application Averages about 1 – 2 years –Depending on when the application is filed New class begins in Fall Semester
52
Community College Program note new req for AS of Fall 2009 Complete GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSES: English 1A Math 40 (beginning Algebra) As of FALL 2009 – Intermediate Algebra (70) now: 73 or 80) (Social Science) History or Poli Sci * As if FALL 2009 removed the social and behavioral science course only 1 course is required and it would be satisfied by taking Psychology 5. Humanities (? now Hum 1 ok) P. E or Health Class (SEE WORKSHEET ON WEBSITE or back of handout)
55
Other Rad Tech Classes Taken? If you have complete Anatomy & Physio & If you have complete another Rad Tech Intro Class at another college – you may be eligible to file an application before completing the RTEC A class You still have to complete RTEC A to begin the ECC RT Program Next Appt Times ARE: ______________
56
Recommendations Anatomy should be taken with in 5 years from start of Program Refresher course in Anatomy or RTEC A Take courses to transfer to BS program
57
Anatomy more than 5 years? You will be eligible to file an application But… For success in the program – you will sign a contract to agree to take another Anatomy refresher course before starting the program (Anat 30 is ok for this)
58
FAQ’S about courses “ TRADE” SCHOOLS / SCROC etc (Med Term, CIS ???) Private Schools Limited Licenses Schools GENERAL ED COURSES –SEE A COUNSELOR FOR ARTICULATION –CCC Office approval
59
