6 St. Valentine’s Day in Great Britain St. Valentine’s Day is now a day for sweethearts. Most people send “valentines”, sentimental and heartfelt greeting cards. Valentines can be heart – shaped or can have hearts on them.

7 Halloween in Great Britain Most of British like Halloween. It goes back many, many hundreds of years. At that time, the Celts lived in England.

8 New Year in Russia New Year’s Day is a family event in Russia. People decorate their New Year trees with tinsel, various baubles and colored lights. They usually put their presents under the tree. When the Kremlin clock strikes 12, they see the Old Year off and the New Year in.

9 Christmas in Russia Christmas in Russia is celebrated on 7 January. It is celebrated with all – night services in churches.

10 Easter in Russia Easter is movable holiday. People color eggs and enjoy traditional Russian dishes. Churches hold special services on this day.

11 Women’s Day in Russia Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8. Men and boys try to please their mother, sister and girl – friends by giving them presents and flowers.

12 Maslenitsa in Russia Maslenitsa marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring and Lent. During this festival people make pancakes, sing and dance traditional songs and visit each other. Maslenitsa is a movable holiday.
