2 Learning Intention: To equip you with the knowledge to know when and how to administer Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in a wilderness setting

3 Success Criteria: By the end of this session everyone should be able to: Perform CPR; Know when not to perform CPR

5 What is CPR?

6 Attempt to keep alive an unconscious casualty by simulating the actions of their lungs and heart 2 Rescue Breaths to 30 Chest Compressions Not intended to restart the heart, just to keep casualty alive until medical help arrives (so call 999 before starting) Of limited use in a wilderness situation due to lengthy response time for emergency services

8 On an unconscious, non- breathing casualty

9 When should I NOT use CPR?

10 On a conscious casualty On a hypothermic casualty

12 Summary: Open Airway Call for/get help 30 Chest Compressions 2 Rescue Breaths Repeat If more than 1 first aider, swap every 2 minutes (4 repetitions) Continue until: casualty recovers, medical help arrives or too exhausted to continue
