1 + Culminating Project What can I do to increase the depth of my learning and positively impact my community?

2 + What is this? An opportunity for you to learn more about a topic you find interesting. My hope is that you will look at our discussed topics and select something that peaks your interest, then we can work together to build an assignment that helps you discover everything you want to know about the topic.

3 + Why are we doing it? I want you to be able to focus on something that interests you mostly. I know there were topics that just didn’t interest me in school and I struggled to get work done because I saw no value in the information. Fortunately, health is such a diverse class in the topics we cover, I thought it would be a great opportunity for you to explore something of interest. It is also a great way for you to practice some of the research and college/career readiness skills you will need in high school (and hey, maybe you will discover something that you are really passionate about and take with you beyond this experience… who knows.)

4 + What are my options? “The world is your oyster…” I honestly want to make this as limitless as possible. You are free to bring me whatever idea you have and if it doesn’t work for some reason, we can work together to make the necessary adjustments! Please, don’t be shy with your creative ideas. Some of my craziest, weirdest ideas have turned into my favorite lessons (like that culminating project thing…) Topics covered include: nutrition, conflicts & relationships (7 th ), mental/emotional disorders (8 th ), first aid, drugs, alcohol & tobacco, and human sexuality

5 + When is this due? As with everything in health, it just depends on you. I would like to check-in with everyone every couple weeks to see where you are, but I’m hopeful that we will have students spread out throughout the quarter so that if we have 15 presentations, we aren’t trying to squeeze them into the last two days of class. I suppose, my suggestion would be to start working on it as soon as you finish the unit it is attached to, but we will discuss it individually.

6 + I’m panicking!!!! I promise, I will support you through EVERYTHING. I want you to succeed and I know you can! As I meet with everyone individually, I will make sure you are not “biting off more than you can chew” and that you understand all of the expectations that go with your chosen learning experience. REMEMBER: You can do it! You’re awesome! Plus, you have me, and you KNOW I’m AWESOME!
