3 Which Mode of Presentation is Best? The answer depends on the type of information your are presenting- Presentations with lots of text may not work well in PowerPoint Presentations with lots of graphics may not work well in Word The text size of websites is often too small for good presentation

4 What students want: What students want of above well organized interesting lessons Students want to be able to print class materials Students like materials with lots of pictures to illustrate the concepts being taught

5 One solution that works well: Teaching with Word documents linked to websites Teaching with word documents linked to websites takes advantage of words ability to print pages well and websites abilities to present pictures and videos PowerPoint presentation also can be linked to websites

7 Teaching with Word: Problem: Spell check and gram check underlines words in red and green

8 Turning off Spelling and Grammar Check Turning the Auto Spell checker off: -Select the whole document >Tools >Language >Set Language -Select -Do not check spelling or grammar

9 Using Web-layout view You can also use web-layout view, but this may change the format of your pages from what you see in print view. – You can see the view bar above in the lower left hand corner of the page in word Another advantage of web-layout view is you can add background colors on your pages

10 Zooming in on the document in Word >View >Zoom -Set the amount you want to zoom in by here - 120-130% is usually good

11 Getting rid of the Word menus: View full screen >View >Full screen -Click: Close Full Screen To go out of full screen view

12 Conclusions: The mode of presentation that works best is highly dependent on the type of information presented and the style of presentation of the presenter What students want of above well organized interesting lessons Students want to be able to print class materials Word documents linked to websites work well for class lessons
