2 * When we eat food, especially carbohydrates, the body converts that food into the preferred source of cellular energy, glucose.

3 * Glucose is then absorbed into the bloodstream to be delivered throughout the body.

4 * The pancreas detects a rise in blood sugar and releases insulin.

5 * Insulin regulates (lowers) blood sugar levels by signaling the body cells to accept or allow glucose in to be used as energy (making ATP).

6 * Some excess glucose can be changed to glycogen and stored in the liver and muscle.

7 * As time passes since your last meal or after being active, your blood sugar/glucose levels drop.

8 * The pancreas detects low levels of blood sugar and responds by releasing glucagon. * Glucagon signals the liver and muscles to release glycogen. * Glucagon changes glycogen back to glucose.

9 * The pancreas detects glucose in the blood and releases insulin…………… ………
