5 With respect to Accreditation / Registration Within industry, we still have individuals practicing the professions who are not licensed. Are there people within academia, that are teaching, publishing and consulting without being registered? Some students can graduate from a program and find they need additional courses in order to register to practice the professions within their province. Collectively, we have a shared concern.

6 Prior Initiatives By Various Entities Knowledge & Experience Booklet which addresses inter-provincial requirements for registration. Internal Trade Agreement permits mobility between the provinces Incidental practice procedures for temporary work outside of one’s provincial jurisdiction. 30 major oil companies in Calgary have requested compliance of their employees

7 If CFES membership is any indication, approximately 75% or more of the Earth Scientists in Canada practice within industry through applied science. Applied scientists require critical thinking skills and interpretive skills. Hence, placement ratios for Mastered Degree students is higher than for Bachelor degree students because a thesis offers the opportunity to apply and develop critical thinking skills. Applied scientists can be called upon during their careers to attest to documents under the guidelines on NI-51-101, NI 43-101 and the like…. Students who graduate need to be eligible for provincial registration.

8 Students are making a significant financial investment in their education. Is your school compliant to the Knowledge & Experience Guideline for your provincial jurisdiction? Focusing upon the recruitment level into the geosciences and fostering compliance is one way to help address this issue. We should lead by example and encourage registration of all practitioners.
