2 Definitions Stereotypes - Overstated sweeping statement about a particular group Racism - Abhorrence or bias against an individual or group due to ethnic background Prejudice - An adverse assumption created without any adequate basis or information Discrimination - Refusal to provide chances and biased treatment that is based on intolerance Prejudice – adverse reaction against a particular ethnic or racial group Discrimination – infringement on the rights of other people, biased act against another person Stereotypes – a generalized concept or declaration about a particular group Racism – the concept of superiority over other races and the concept that they should dominate other races 1

3 Prejudice vs Discriminations
Prejudice is the presence of an indifferent concept about a particular individual or a group. Discrimination is an action based on prejudice without taking into consideration the concrete traits of a particular individual Prejudice is the act of having a particular idea about a minority group. While discrimination is the action based on prejudice without taking into consideration actual facts about an individual or a group. 3 4

4 Stereotype vs Racism A racist has a pre- conceived idea that some races are superior compared to others. They also have a general idea about a particular race and do not take into consideration the traits of a particular race or group.  5 6

5 Individual Discrimination vs Institutional Discrimination
Individual discrimination is the discrimination that a person has for an individual who belongs to a different ethnic group. Institutional discrimination is the discrimination that a particular institution or major group has for a particular minority group. Individual discrimination is focused on the personal encounter with a particular person while institutional discrimination is focused on the discrimination that a major group intentionally has for a minority groups. 7 8

6 Augusta National faces scrutiny on “No Women” rule
Women are not allowed to join the Augusta National Golf Club. African Americans were only accepted by the club in 1990. The Augusta National Golf Club hugged the limelight at the 2012 GPA tournament since Virginia or Ginni Rometty was not given permission to joing the golf club, which has a men’s only policy. Rometty was the new CEO of IBM, which was a major sponsor of the GPA tournament. 9 10
