2 ADJECTIVES * Possessive, demonstrative, interrogative, indefinite
Modifies a noun or a pronoun by describing, identifying or quantifying words. Usually proceeds the noun or pronoun it modifies EXAMPLES: The small boat foundered on the wine dark sea. The back room was filled with large, yellow rain boots. * Possessive, demonstrative, interrogative, indefinite

3 NOUNS a word used to name a person, animal, place, thing, and abstract idea EXAMPLES: Late last year our neighbors bought a goat. Portia White was an opera singer. Proper v. Common Nouns Noun Gender Possessive Nouns

4 PRONOUNS Can replace a noun or another pronoun
Personal, subjective, objective, possessive, demonstrative, interrogative, relative, indefinite White, House, Mr. Miller, Michael Jordan, Mickey Mouse

5 ADVERB can modify a verb, an adjective, another adverb, a phrase, or a clause indicates manner, time, place, cause, or degree and answers questions such as "how," "when," "where," "how much” Usually ends in an -ly EXAMPLES: The seamstress quickly made the mourning clothes. We urged him to dial the number more expeditiously

6 VERBS Most important part of a sentence Asserts something about the subject of the sentence and express actions, events, or states of being Action verb v. linking verb Jumping, playing, skipping, chewing EXAMPLES: Dracula bites his victims on the neck.
