5 School drug use, crime and violence are related issues

6 National Center for Education Statistics A Special Report: 57% of public school principals report 1 or more incidents of crime and violence to law enforcement 10% of public schools experienced 1 or more violent crimes Schools that reported at least 1 violent incident: –54% of elementary schools –74% middle schools –77% high schools Study Completed (Sept 97 - June 05) 16 violent incidents and more children were shot on campus including those at Columbine High School
