2 What is a collaborative project? A project that –Uses the Internet –Connects with another area of the globe –Promotes working with someone else to produce a product –Addresses academic GLEs and technology standards

3 Why are collaborative projects important? Extends learning beyond the classroom Develops critical thinking skills Develops cultural and global awareness Promotes real life/real time learning Allows students to broaden their world

4 Why are collaborative projects important? Student centered Students become decision makers Students become a part of a community of learners Students master knowledge by constructing it Students experience new technologies

5 Louisiana K-12 Technology Standards Technology Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Tools (Problem Solving Foundation Skill) Students use appropriate technology resources for solving problems and making informed decisions. Students employ technology for real world problem solving. Students evaluate the technology selected, the process, and the final results through the use of informed decision-making skills. Technology Productivity Tools (Resource Access and Utilization Foundation Skill) Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity. Students use productivity tools to work collaboratively in developing technology-rich, authentic, student-centered products. Technology Communication Tools (Communication Foundation Skill) Students use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts and other audiences. Students use a variety of media and formats to communicate and present information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences.

6 Technology Research Tools (Linking and Generating Knowledge Foundation Skill) Students use appropriate technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources. Students use technology tools to process data and report results. Students evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness to specific tasks. Social, Ethical, and Human Issues (Citizenship Foundation Skill) Students understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology. Students practice responsible use of technology systems, information, and software. Students develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity. Basic Operations and Concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems. Students are proficient in the use of technology. 7 O.R.E.O. Project (Our Really Exciting Online Project) This year's project invited classrooms to have each student stack Oreo® cookies as high as he or she can and then average all their individual results to achieve a final Class result. http://www.technospudprojects.com/Projects/oreo06/instructions.htm

My students enjoyed completing the project and seeing how our results compared with the results of other classes. Would you repeat the project next year? Yes, I would. 11 Bucket Buddies Barron Elementary Gifted and Talented Teacher Lori Savoie said: I participate in the project every year. The students enjoy it and I enjoy how simple it is to put together. Everything is well organized. A worthwhile project.
