Halifax Regional School Board What’s in the Vision Document? Vision DocumentVision Document It is divided into five IT-based learning outcome areas: 1)Basic Operations and Concepts (BOC) 2)Productivity Tools and Software (PTS) 3)Communications Technology (CT) 4)Research, Problem Solving, and Decision Making (RPSD) 5)Social, Ethical, and Human Issues (SEHI)

Halifax Regional School Board Breaking down the five learning outcome areas

Halifax Regional School Board Basic Operations and Concepts (BOC) In these outcomes, students will learn to operate a range of information technologies safely and efficiently.

Halifax Regional School Board Productivity Tools and Software (PTS) In these outcomes students learn to select IT efficiently and to perform tasks such as –exploring ideas –collecting data –manipulating data –discovering patterns and relationships –solving problems –representing learning

Halifax Regional School Board Communications Technology (CT) Students use technologies in an interactive way to support collaboration and sharing through communication.

Halifax Regional School Board Research, Problem Solving, and Decision Making (RPSD) Students rationalize their use of IT through –organization –reasoning –evaluation

Halifax Regional School Board Curriculum Alignment In order to facilitate in the planning of lessons linked to the Provincial outcomes and assessment, you may be interested in attending Curriculum Alignment professional development opportunities.

Halifax Regional School Board The following six activities can be used for opening up dialogue, reflection and planning

Halifax Regional School Board Opening up dialogue and reflection 1. Think of a lesson or unit that you have recently done. Look at the Visions document and identify technology outcomes that could be incorporated into that curriculum area. 2. Start with the Visions document. Do you see any outcomes that you could integrate into lessons/units you are doing?

Halifax Regional School Board 4. Think of some of your lessons or units. If a new edition of the Illustrative Examples was being published tomorrow, what example(s) could you add? 3. Skim over some of the examples in the Illustrative Examples document. Are there any ideas that you would like to try?

Halifax Regional School Board 5. How could you pool together a collection of illustrative examples that are going on at your school? How could this be useful? 6. Where can you find support in incorporating the Visions document into the curriculum? List resources available to you at your school, online, at the HRSB, in your family of schools, in your community etc.

Halifax Regional School Board Summary of activities 1.Think of one of your lessons. Look at Vision document and incorporate outcomes. 2.Start with the Vision document. How could you incorporate outcomes into your existing lessons? 3.Skim over Illustrative Examples. What would you like to try? 4.Think of your own practices. What could go in a new Illustrative Examples document? 5.How could you pool illustrative examples going on at your school? Useful? 6.List resources available for support in incorporating Visions document (online, HRSB, school, family, community etc.)
