Presenter Tips & Tricks (Remove this slide from your final PPT) Consider providing a handout unless you can reference a Guide (don’t put detailed information into your PPT). Include details in the handout (path, screen shots, brief explanations) Start strong: “Good morning/afternoon. Welcome to WASWUG 2014. (Or how are you enjoying WASWUG so far?) I am, and in this session I will be presenting on. Demonstrate within the application unless the presentation is on conceptual functions, such as how data is being calculated or what is occurring behind the scenes (only use screen shots in your PPT or tutorial as a back-up). Be conversational and engaging. Make eye contact with individuals as you speak. Build in opportunities to ask pertinent (not fluff) questions. Pause after asking questions or introducing a new concept or terminology to allow the attendee to “gestate” on the question/concept. Repeat attendee’s questions, or verify everyone heard the question before you respond. Practice your presentation in front of at least one person. Get feedback. For crowded sessions, help manage seating prior to the start of your presentation. Ask folks to raise their hand if they have an empty seat next to them.
