User’s Guide to the ‘QDE Toolkit Pro’ National ResearchConseil national Council Canadade recherches Excel Tools for Presenting Metrological Comparisons by B.M. Wood, R.J. Douglas & A.G. Steele Chapter 10. Project Organization: Excel, Workbooks, Worksheets, Tables and Graphs In this chapter, some suggestions are made for organizing a comparison project that is being analyzed using the QDE Toolkit Pro. Rather detailed instruction are provided for how this is done: If a macro needs some data it cannot find, it will usually write its default form. Sometimes a macro has to be run three times before all the defaults are written! April 16, 2002 Ch 10: 129

QDE Toolkit Pro - the components One copy of Excel, having Open Excel Workbooks: QDE Toolkit Pro 2.07 Workbook QDE2.xls Your Excel Workbook, eg CCEMK8.xls Your Excel Workbook, eg another.xls VBA Modules QDE_Toolkit_Functions2 QDE_Toolkit_Macros2 QDE_Toolkit_PlotBuilder QDE_Toolkit_Plots QDE_Toolkit_RV Excel Worksheets: TK Title Input Data Excel Worksheets: TK Title 1000-10 100-10 Excel Worksheets: TK Title Anyname1 Anyname2 Anyname3 Sheet1 Sheet2 Sheet3 Sheet4 Sheet5... After installing the DLLs (in C:\QDE2\), you could open an archived copy of QDE2.xls and start to work immediately. We like to load Excel, open a copy of QDE2.xls, and then open and use other workbooks - all of which use the same copy of QDE2.xls. All open workbooks can use all Toolkit Pro macros and functions in QDE2.xls. This makes Toolkit maintenance a bit easier for you. Ch 10: 130 DLLs (in C:\QDE2\ ) MCMedian.dll, MCMedianH.dll, DFORRT.DLL, DFORMD.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL

QDE Toolkit Pro - running QDE2 macros from other workbooks In workbook CCEMK8, with QDE2.xls open, its macros look like this: List only macros from QDE2.xls, if you wish. Ch 10: 131

QDE Toolkit Pro - setting up a new workbook Starting from a single new worksheet, with comparison data entered and saved as a new workbook, we can run one of the table- building (or plot-building) QDE2 macros. Here we run QDE2.xls!tk_mraCCQM_TableBuilder, which will first check for a worksheet named ‘TK Title’ in the workbook.. Ch 10: 132

QDE Toolkit Pro - setting up a new workbook Since there is no ‘TK Title’, the macro starts preparing a worksheet named ‘TK Title’ : you will have to enter some title and unit data into the new worksheet. Ch 10: 133

QDE Toolkit Pro - setting up a new workbook The macro creates and displays a worksheet named ‘TK Title’. You will have to enter some title and unit data into the new worksheet, in particular. The units are entered twice, once in plain text only (row 5), and once in fancy, formatted text: 10 -6 V/  V is intended as an easy-to-edit source of some commonly-wanted but finicky formatting. Ch 10: 134

QDE Toolkit Pro - setting up a new workbook Done! Ch 10: 135

QDE Toolkit Pro - setting up a new workbook So now we have a TK Title, with Title and units, we can re-run QDE2.xls!tk_mraCCQM_TableBuilder. However, we’re still not quite set up, since we have to choose which Labs are to be included in the Toolkit’s pools for the its various pooled statistics. Ch 10: 136

QDE Toolkit Pro - setting up a new workbook The macro writes the pooling default, of including everything, and asks the user to check them out. Ch 10: 137

QDE Toolkit Pro - setting up a new workbook The macro writes the pooling default, of including everything, and asks the user to check them out, on the new worksheet TK Title. Ch 10: 138

QDE Toolkit Pro - setting up a new workbook Third time lucky? We re-run the macro QDE2.xls!tk_mraCCQM_TableBuilder which this time will be able to calculate the table. Ch 10: 139

QDE Toolkit Pro - setting up a new workbook The macro writes the default correlation coefficients (uncorrelated) and finally writes out a CCQM format Table of Degrees of Equivalece So we’re done?? Not if we have more correlation coefficient information, or pooling selections to enter! Ch 10: 140

QDE Toolkit Pro Tip - Many Tables per Worksheet Each data set can be summarized using each of the available table builder macros, to provide you with the maximum amount of information and flexibility. The different tables can be created on the same sheet. Simply select a new output ‘anchor’ cell and run a different macro. Ch 10: 141

QDE Toolkit Pro Tip - Safe Table Locations on a Worksheet If your comparison has nLabs laboratories, and will have a maximum of nRV reference values, to keep your tables safe from being erased by the large tables of tk_pool_PlotBuilder, keep your tables below row (nLabs + nRV + 5) and to the right of column (nLabs + nRV + 4) Ch 10: 142

QDE Toolkit Pro Tip - Separate Workbooks, and Title Worksheets At least initially, we recommend that you set up a separate workbook for each comparison. All the worksheets in a workbook use the same title and units, placed on a worksheet named “TK Title”. If a QDE Toolkit Pro macro does not find a worksheet named “TK Title” in its workbook, it automatically creates one and pesters you to fill it out. Ch 10: 143
