oneone EEM-2 Objective: To identify the 6 forms of energy in order to recognize the forms in daily life. Energy Note: How can energy be recognized in our surroundings? Drill: 1. Take out yesterday’s ditto and your 6 cards 2. Wait for directions.

oneone EEM-2 The examples of energy you have read about so far involve objects being moved or physically changed. But both kinetic energy and potential energy have a variety of different forms. Some of the major forms of energy are mechanical energy, thermal energy, chemical energy, electrical energy, electromagnetic energy, and nuclear energy.

* Mechanical * Heat/Thermal * Chemical * Electrical * Electromagnetic * Nuclear

* Energy associated with the motion or position of an object * Sound Sound * Anything moving * KE or PE * Not 100% efficient much lost to heat * Ex – a jumping frog - a pendulum

* The internal motion of an object’s atoms and molecules. * Measured by temperature. * When the thermal energy of an object increases, its particles move faster causing a temperature increase. * KE only * Example – ice cream melting – forest fire

* Energy stored by chemical bonds in compounds. * When bonds are broken energy is released. * When new bonds are formed energy is absorbed * Stored in foods, fuels and the cells of your body * PE only * Examples – an apple – a piece of coal

* Moving electrical charges. * Electricity * Powers many of our devices. * Examples – lightning - static shock

* Energy that travel in waves. * Possess both electrical and magnetic properties. * Can be dangerous * Kinetic energy * Examples - light - ultraviolet radiation - x-rays - gamma rays

* Energy stored in center(nucleus) of an atom * Released in fission (splitting the nucleus) * Released In fusion (joining several nuclei together) * The sun is powered by this * Most powerful * PE only

oneone EEM-2 HOMEWORK Study and review your information.
