4 To immediately exit the building or area due to safety concerns for emergency personnel. Abandonment will be accomplished expeditiously, taking only the equipment necessary to facilitate a safe escape.

5 This term means that everyone is to clear the air of all radio traffic for an important message.

6 This term shall be used in reference to removing civilians from a hazardous zone or structure

7 A system initiated and used by the IC, using the radio and passport accountability system to verify the status of all personnel at the emergency scene.

8 POLICY ABANDONMENT ORDER SHALL BE GIVEN WHENEVER BUILDING COLLAPSE OR PARTIAL COLLAPSE IS IMMINENT OR SUSPECTED, OR AN IMMEDIATE EXPLOSION HAZARD IS NOTED, WATER SUPPLY IS LOST TO THE INTERIOR ATTACK CREWS, OR ANY OTHER REASON DEEMED NECESSARY TO SAVE LIVES. EITHER THE IC OR THE ISO CAN GIVE THE ABANDONMENT ORDER.

9 POLICY CONTINUED ANY FIREFIGHTER OR OFFICER OPERATING AT AN EMERGENCY SCENE MAY INITIATE THE ABANDONMENT PROCESS THROUGH THE IC OR ISO. THE MEMBER MAKING NOTICATION BY RADIO SHALL IMMEDIATLEY NOTIFY THE IC WITH “EMERGENCY TRAFFIC” AND STATE THE NEED AND RERASON FOR ABANDONMENT.

10 POLICY CONTINUED THE IC SHALL QUICKLY MAKE THE FINAL DETERMINATION TO ABANDON. HOWEVER, THE ISO CAN INDEPENDENTLY CONTACT THE DISPATCHER AND INTIATE THE ABANDONMENT PROCESS IF THERE IS AN IMMINENT LIFE THREAT.

11 RESPONSIBILITIES

12 IC/ISO RESPONSIBILITIES ANNOUNCE “EMERGECNY TRAFFIC-ALL UNITS AT X- COMMAND-ABANDON THE STRUCTURE IMMEDIATELY”. REPEAT TWO TIMES. IC CONTACT DISPATCH ON THE ASSIGNED TACTICAL CHANNEL AND STATE “EMERGENCY TRAFFIC”. STATE THAT THE STRUCTURE MUST BE ABANDONED AND REQUEST THE ABANDONMENT TONE BE TRANSMITTED. IC PREPARE TO CONDUCT ROLL CALL. IC CONDUCT ROLLCALL.

13 DISPATCH RESPONSIBILITIES TRANSMIT ABONDONMENT TONES FOR (5) SECONDS. ANNOUNCE THE ABONDONMENT MESSAGE AS RECEIVED FROM THE IC OR ISO ON THE TACTICAL CHANNEL AND ALL OTHER APPROPRIATE CHANNELS. REPEAT TWICE. RESTRICT RADIO COMMUNICATIONS TO EMERGENCY TRAFFIC. MAINTAIN RESTRICTED RADIO TRAFFIC TO FACILITATE COMPLETION OF ROLL CALL.

14 APPARATUS OPERATORS RESPONSIBILITIES ACTIVATE AIR HORN FOR FIVE (5) SECONDS IN DURATION WITH A FIVE (5) SECOND PAUSE, THEN REPEAT TWO (2) TIMES

15 FIREGROUND PERSONNEL RESPONSIBILITIES UPON HEARING THE ABANDONMENT TONES, LISTEN CAREFULLY TO DETERMINE THE NATURE OF THE EMERGENCY. EXIT THE STRUCTURE TAKING ONLY THOSE ITEMS NECESSARY TO FACILITATE A SAFE AND EXPEDITIOUS ESCAPE. DIVISION SUPERVISORS, COMPANY OFFICERS, AND GROUP SUPERVISORS VERBALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY RECEIVED THE ABANDONMENT ORDER.

16 FIREGROUND PERSONNEL RESPONSIBILITIES CONT. ONCE CLEAR OF THE STRUCTURE, COMPANIES AND TEAMS SHALL NOTIFY THEIR SUPERVISOR FACE-TO-FACE. SUPERVISORS PREPARE FOR ROLL CALL.

17 ROLL CALL PROCEDURE IC SHALL INITIATE ROLL CALL. IC ANNOUNCE ROLL CALL BYSTATING: “EMERGENCY TRAFFIC, ALL UNITS PREPARE FOR ROLL CALL”. CO’S AND TL’S DETERMINE THE STATUS OF THEIR PERSONNEL AND REPORT TO THEIR DIVISION OR GROUP SUPERVISOR (FACE-TO-FACE WHEN POSSIBLE). IC SHOULD INITIATE ROLL CALL WITH CREWS OPERATING IN THE AREA REQUIRING ROLL CALL FOLLOWED BY MEMBERS NOT IN IMMEDIATE DANGER.

18 ROLL CALL PROCEDURE CONTINUED DIVISION OR GROUP SUPERVISORS REPORT THE STATUS OF ASSIGNED PERSONNEL: “E2805 ALL ACCOUNTED FOR, TOTAL 4” “DIVISION C MISSING 1, 9 ACCOUNTED FOR”
