What is Alcohol? Organic compound in which the Hydroxyl Functional Group is bound to a carbon atom A drink contains about 3-60 % Ethanol Regulated by over 100 countries 1 Trillion dollar a year industry

Dangers of Alcohol Anemia- Low red blood cells to carry oxygen Cancer- mouth, throat, voice box, esophagus, liver, breast, colorectal region Cardiovascular Disease- Blood clots Cirrhosis- Liver disease, cannot function correctly Seizures- Can cause epilepsi Gout- Uric acid in joints High blood preassure- Constriction of blood vessels Infectious Disease- Supresses the imune system Nerve Damage- Weakness, incontinence, constipation, ED Depression- Hand in hand, people who are depressed try to self medicate themselves with alcohol. But makes everything extremely severe and can lead to suicide

Alcohol use Today 90 % of teenagers have used alcohol 13 yrs of age is average for 1st time drinkers 60% of emergency room visits are the cause of alcohol or drugs 28% of college dropouts are alcohol users 95% of all college campus violence is alcohol related over 50% of car accidents are the cause of alcohol 50% of suicides are caused by alcohol 50% of all violent crimes are caused by alcohol

The Dark Ages Beer saved million of lives in the middle ages In Europe, the water was so dangerous that drinking the water would kill you Beer was the only thing you could drink without dying UC Berkley professor proves that the boiling process killed bacteria and made the beer safe to drink The hard times made people consume a lot of beer and unltimately saved them Children even drank beer a family would drink 600 liters of beer a year
