Roverway – facts Event offered by WAGGGS and WOSM Europe for young people age 16-22. Hosted by the Icelandic Boy and Girl Scout Association We are following the great success of Roverway in Portugal 2003 and Italy 2006 www.roverway.is

Educational Goals Develop their understanding and experience of belonging to a world wide movement of Scouts and Guides in a European Context Be challenged by new perspectives of culture, origin, ideas, behavior and experience Experience the influence and power of nature and the environment on everyday life Be challenged to think about their lifestyle and its impact on the environment and on their individual health. Think about their place as a European citizen and the rights and responsibilities that go with it.

Roverway – Who Participants: Rovers, Scouts and Guides, Ventures, Explorers, and young people between 16 and 22 years old (born 1987 to 1993). IST: 23 years and older (1986 and older). www.roverway.is

Teams and Tribes Participants register in teams of 5-15 people The teams choose a Journey from our list Teams from different countries form a tribe of 50 participants including Leaders. The tribe takes a Journey together and camp together at Althingi

Timeframe 20.July at 10am Opening ceremony in Reykjavik first meal at 12am 20.July the Journey starts right after the Opening ceremony 24.July tribes arrive to Althingi 28.July Closing ceremony at 10am last meal at 12am –After lunch - Everyone cleaning up, packing and heading home

Timeframe - Before and after From 17.July we provide accommodation at low cost and assist you with planning sightseeing tours in Reykjavik area. After Roverway you can stay free of charge at Lake Ulfljotsvatn till 31.July We can also provide accommodation at low cost in Reykjavik area till 31.July and help you plan sightseeing tours in Reykjavik area

The Journey All around Iceland, north, east, south, west, Cycling, rafting, flying, hiking, skiing, crawling... Skaftafell, Thorsmork, Reykjavik, Akureyri, Isafjordur…

The Journey may for example feature river rafting, hiking, glacier tours, fishing, horseback riding and boat tours.

IST members 23 years and older IST will start to work at Lake Ulfljotsvatn during the Journey period (Ground staff) Some of the IST members will be signed to a Journey (Journey staff) IST starts working when Roverway starts and stays 2 days after Roverway ends IST programme will be organized for all staff both duty and fun!

The weather… Be prepared! You can expect all kinds of weather in Iceland

Equipment You will need warm clothes, waterproofs and good boots Each team need to bring (or hire) a sleeping tent Each person to bring their own sleeping bag and sleeping mattress

The food… First meal will be packed lunch 20.July The tribes will be cooking together during Roverway. Information about special needs i.e. Food allergy has to be notified before arrival Last meal offered will be lunch 28.July
