2 Page 1October 20th 2011 Overview of installed EV Charge Point infrastructure Work Package 4 – Grid Evolution  WP4 Objective  Use the numerous on-going demonstration field trials and infrastructure roll outs of the consortium of project partners to develop the tools and requirements of an EV charging grid infrastructure: Which provides for adequate capacity Which is user friendly to the EV customer and provides for their needs Which is developed with broadly accepted economic and technical principles and agreed standards of safety

3 Page 2October 20th 2011 Overview of installed EV Charge Point infrastructure Work Package 4 – Grid Evolution  The Proposed system for WP4  Will integrate all existing standards and incorporate new standards which are currently under development  Will be fully integrated with the transmission and distribution grid  Will facilitate EV charging by any EV customer, traveling anywhere in Europe  Will enable the provision of EV power requirements to Renewable Energy Resources  There are 5 tasks in WP4

5 Page 4October 20th 2011 Overview of installed EV Charge Point infrastructure Work Package 4 – Grid Evolution  Task 1 undertaken by ESB ecars  Functional and Design Requirements of Infrastructure This task is designed to collect data on the hardware, software and costs of installation of infrastructure as installed across Europe There are two surveys that have been distributed to project participants and a few selected stakeholders. The first survey is a Technical Survey for infrastructure The second is a Cost/Price Survey for cost/price of installed infrastructure Data collected will be passed to other Tasks in the Green eMotion project for integration, analysis and evaluation The deadline for final report for this task is T12 - February 2012

6 Page 5October 20th 2011 Overview of installed EV Charge Point infrastructure Work Package 4, Task 1 Data Collection  Brief Update of data collected at present  Infrastructure data shows there are 3 major categories Public and On Street Charging Infrastructure Fast Charging Infrastructure Home Charging Infrastructure

7 Page 6October 20th 2011 Overview of installed EV Charge Point infrastructure Work Package 4, Task 1 Data  Public/Private and On Street Charging  Generally specified is the mode 3 type 2 socket Some mode 1, mode 2 – Schuko and legacy 3 pin sockets are installed Most installations are equipped with GPRS, PLCs and electrical gear In street charge post meters are “generally” specified as revenue grade meters  Generally all participants have chosen a 22kW, 3Ф, 32A, 230V AC design. Street posts vary from 3.52kW per socket to 44kW per socket

Generally specified as 50kW mode 4 CHAdeMO Most installations are equipped with GPRS, PLCs and electrical gear  Some have a 44kW, 3Ф, 63A, 230V AC unit that also fast charges EVs Generally specified AC 44kW Mode 3 Type 2  Currently one participant have reported they have installed 1 battery swap station and they are in the process of installing 9 more

9 Page 8October 20th 2011 Overview of installed EV Charge Point infrastructure Work Package 4, Task 1 Data  Home Charging  Generally the participants are installing 13A to 32A home charge points. Generally specified for utility pilot projects are AC Mode 3 Type 2 Customers have installed a variety of configurations  Generally multiple tariffs are available to customers  Generally a separate dedicated circuit is installed in the customer’s home distribution system inside the boundary of the customer meter

10 Page 9October 20th 2011 Overview of installed EV Charge Point infrastructure Work Package 4, Task 1 Data  Price/Cost of Public/Private and Street Charging  The average costs of Public/Private charging infrastructure vary as shown in the data collected so far. The variation in costs goes from €3200 to €7000 including installation and ancillary equipment on a per charge post basis.

13 Page 12October 20th 2011 Preliminary Conclusions  Generalized Preliminary Conclusions ■In general there is a trend toward Mode 3, Type 2 street post infrastructure at about 22kW per socket for Public/Private and street charging ■In general there is a trend toward fast charging of the DC variety ■Home charging appears to be Mode 3, Type 2 which is being installed for the most part, by the participants in their pilot projects, in all areas across Europe The data shows in southern Europe there are some Mode 1 and Mode 2 Schuko sockets being installed
