Warm Up What liquid did you find to have a density of 1.2? Time’s Up!

Heat, Temperature, Pressure, Volume, and Density

Heat – An amount of thermal energy something transfers to something else. Temperature – A measure of the relative average thermal energy of the atoms of a substance. Volume – The amount of space something occupies Density – Mass per unit volume (kg/m 3 or g/mL) how much mass is in a given volume Pressure – Force per unit area (N/m 2 or Pascals), the sum total of all the little forces each atoms exerts on a surface.

Gas Pressure Simulation Use the simulation to determine the relationships between temperature, pressure, and volume. 10 minutes to play with the simulation and record your observations on paper. Record your observations of the relationship between temperature, pressure, and volume on your class’s padlet board.

Pressure Bottles As you pump air into the bottle what is happening to the balloon? Why? As you pump air out of the container what is happening to the balloon? Why?

Vacuum Sealed Human

Atmospheric Pressure A measurement of how much atmosphere is pushing down on you! – Small variations due to changes in temperature and air movement. 1 Atm = pressure at sea level If it is colder, what happens to atmospheric pressure? If it is warmer, what happens to atmospheric pressure?
