5. Farmers Alliance ► Stemmed from The Granges educated farmers ► Had ideas regarding-Banks, Loans, and Interest Rates

Populist Party ► Political party for the people ► Not republican, not democrat then it is known as a 3 rd Party ► Had ideas that were important to the common people  Such as 8 hour work day  Federal Loan programs ► Becomes the platform for the Democratic Party, believed govt. should be responsible for social reform

8. Bi Metallism ► Silver and Gold would be exchanged for paper money ► Farmers were “Silverites” wanted bi- metallism and wanted to add Silver coinage to the gold circulation of money ► Silver “Ag” and Gold “Au”=more money in circulation (Less Value)

9. Bi Metallism ► The businesses (banks) were “Gold Bugs” Gold Standard and only wanted gold to be exchanged for paper money. ► Gold=Less money in circulation (more value) ► Loans would be repaid in Stable Dollars/money ► Inflation: Price increases, Value decreases (Bad) ► Deflation: Price decreases, Value increases (Good)
