3 Mono Vs. Poly Syllabic One syllable vs. Many Syllables Ex. Rod, sat, cool Ex. Dysfunctional, establishment.

4 Euphonious Vs. Cacophonous Pleasant sounding vs. Harsh sounding Ex. The birds flew gracefully in the mid- summer breeze. Ex. The harsh, grating of the axe upon the stone was painful to the ears.

5 Literal Vs. Figurative Accurate without embellishment vs. comparison creating a pictorial effect Ex. The sun was extremely hot Ex. The sun’s rays created a firestorm on his back.
