Seoul, Republic of Korea, 13-14 May 2002Special Study Group on IMT-2000 and Beyond Approach EMPHASIS ON: Collaboration Cooperation Partnering BUT NOT: Duplication of work 3G 2G IP Revolution from subscriber service expectations Evolution from 2G systems Revolution from IP infrastructure and Beyond

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 13-14 May 2002Special Study Group on IMT-2000 and Beyond SSG Study Questions (WP 1) WP 1/SSGService and Interface requirements for IMT 2000 and Beyond Q.1/SSGService and network capability requirements and network architecture –establish a clear vision for future mobile services and network capability requirements for beyond IMT-2000 systems Q.2/SSGNNI mobility management protocol (Stage 3) –define new mobility management signalling application protocols, or enhancements to existing protocols, needed to support IMT-2000 services to enable global roaming between different IMT-2000 family systems

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 13-14 May 2002Special Study Group on IMT-2000 and Beyond SSG Study Questions (WP 2) WP 2/SSGApplication and Interworking of IMT 2000 Systems Q.3/SSGIdentification of existing and evolving IMT-2000 Systems –identify architectures, detailed specifications and releases which have been and will be produced by recognized SDOs which make up existing and evolving IMT-2000 systems Q.4/SSGInterworking functions to be used with existing and evolving IMT-2000 systems –identify (and define if not done elsewhere) interworking functions to facilitate appropriate interworking between existing and evolving IMT 2000 family members, PSTN/ISDN and Packet Data networks Q.5/SSGPreparation of a Handbook on IMT-2000 –work with the D and R sectors, coordinate T sector input for a handbook on IMT-2000 to assist developed and developing countries

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 13-14 May 2002Special Study Group on IMT-2000 and Beyond SSG Study Questions (WP 3 & SSG) WP 3/SSGHarmonization and Convergence of IMT 2000 Systems Q.6/SSGHarmonisation of evolving IMT-2000 systems –define interface requirements and network architectures for harmonization of existing and evolving IMT-2000 systems to provide seamless global roaming for IMT-2000 future Capability Sets (that will include high speed packet data, multimedia, and IP-based services) Q.7/SSGConvergence of fixed and existing IMT-2000 systems –describe the principles and requirements for the convergence of fixed and IMT-2000 networks –describe the architectural requirements for a converged core network to support IMT-2000 capabilities accessible from various wireless and wireline access technologies to support current and evolving IMT-2000 capabilities SSG as a whole Q.8/SSGSpecial Study Group working procedures –considering the provisional working procedures for the SSG (Rec. A.9), develop further working procedures (including new output document types as appropriate) to ensure that the SSG can respond rapidly to the requirements of Member States and Sector Members

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 13-14 May 2002Special Study Group on IMT-2000 and Beyond SSG Study Questions (Re-organization) ON-GOING Q.1/SSGService and network capability requirements and network architecture Q.3/SSGIdentification of existing and evolving IMT-2000 Systems Q.5/SSGPreparation of a Handbook on IMT-2000 Q.7/SSGConvergence of fixed and existing IMT-2000 systems Q.8/SSGSpecial Study Group working procedures PROPOSED TO BE RE-ORGANIZED INTO ONE QUESTION Q.2/SSGNNI mobility management protocol (Stage 3) Q.4/SSGInterworking functions to be used with existing and evolving IMT-2000 systems Q.6/SSGHarmonisation of evolving IMT-2000 systems

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 13-14 May 2002Special Study Group on IMT-2000 and Beyond Current SSG Role on Security Q.3/SSG Identification of existing and evolving IMT-2000 Systems –Security Technical Specifications from external organizations are referenced in an ITU Recommendation what "existing" IMT-2000 –Q.1741.1includes list Of the 3GPP security specifications referenced

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 13-14 May 2002Special Study Group on IMT-2000 and Beyond Current SSG Role on Security Q.1/SSG Service and network capability requirements and network architecture& Q.7/SSG Convergence of fixed and existing IMT-2000 systems –Identified the need to evolve the security requirement specifications with regard to network aspects of IMT2000 and Beyond Systems –No Specific work has been done on security yet. –National Security Agencies has expectation on security aspects to be met by SSG –look towards SG 17 to provide the key expertise on how security can be achieved –aiming more at stating security requirements in a mobile environment.

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 13-14 May 2002Special Study Group on IMT-2000 and Beyond Security ISSUES for the NEXT Generation Mobile Networks Intrinsic Network Security Vs. Access to (Intrusion into) Network information by "security agencies. Encoded Speech by smart powerful end Terminal. Encrypted Secure Data Transfer(user to User) How much and How Long the huge data to be kept by operator High Capacity and Highly advanced featured Network to be established by Security Agencies Adequate interface standardization is expected by ITU Network Engineering & Routing issues on migration from existing Circuits Switched network to IP Based

Seoul, Republic of Korea, 13-14 May 2002Special Study Group on IMT-2000 and Beyond CONCLUSION SSG will work out Security Requirements for next Generation Mobile Network. Will depend on SG17 on expert inputs on security aspects to meet full expectation of network operators and security agencies for future mobile network. Collaboration with expert groups in external organizations on Mobile Network Security is envisaged to meet the critical need
