7 * We will be using Word 2010, Step by Step by Curtis D Frye as a class text book. There is a reference copy in your Computer Lab * Microsoft Office 2010 for Dummies by Wallace Wang contains simplified help for Access,Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word and is also in the lab. * A way of getting help is to go into Google and put in key words describing your problem and see what Google can find in the way of solutions to your problem which most probably other people have experienced before you.Google

10 * We will do this in two ways. * Last week we learned how to use Word to create a resume. * This week we will be writing a cover letter to go with the resume when applying for a job.

11 * To get into Word, click on the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen, the Start menu should appear. * In the box with Search Programs and Files, type in Word. Windows then searches for file names containng the word Word. * The Word Icon labelled Microsoft Word 2010 should appear at the top of the list. * Click on the Icon and the Microsoft Word will appear.

12 * You might need to review the Lynda.com video "Creating a template" which describes this process."Creating a template" * There is a document called How to make a professional Resume for Todays Job Market in your handout which describes this process.documenthandout * In the File menu, click on New and then type cover letter into the search box opposite the words Office.com Templates where it says Search Office.com for Templates. and press Enter. A whole number of cover letter templates should show up. * Choose a cover letter that is appropriate for yourself by clicking on it. If you don't have any particular preference, scroll down and use the one called Resume cover letter that explains employment gap. Click on the download button to save it to your computer. * If you chose to use the Resume cover letter that explains employment gap template, then * Check that your display looks something like thisthis

13 * Type in at your own name and address * Fill out and revise the letter so that it is to someone who might hire you for a job that you want.

14 * Print out the page by typing in Ctrl-P (Hold down Ctrl key and press P) and then Print * Please print your name and date on it and turn it into the instructor by the end of next week.
