NCAA Core Values The Association - through its member institutions, conferences and national office staff - shares a belief in and commitment to: The collegiate model of athletics in which students participate as an avocation, balancing their academic, social and athletics experiences. The highest levels of integrity and sportsmanship. The pursuit of excellence in both academics and athletics. The supporting role that intercollegiate athletics plays in the higher education mission and in enhancing the sense of community and strengthening the identity of member institutions. Where Division I Is Currently Desired Outcome StepsProgress Operate in a nimble and streamlined manner Use of NCAA Division I Council Coordination Committee. Use of Ad Hoc working groups. Creation of seven standing committees. Reduction in number of committee, people and appellate opportunities. More responsive to membership and student-athlete needs Formed student-athlete experience committee. Student-athlete involvement in structure. NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee reporting line to Council. Fifteen student-athletes voting on autonomy legislation. Enhance Division I's ability to navigate future challenges Seven Council committees established broad responsibilities. Sport specific approach to football, men’s and women’s basketball. Use of ad hoc groups for more timely responsiveness. Maintain presidential control, oversight and improve composition Division I Board's responsibilities and new approach to Council. Presidents serving on NCAA Division I Committee on Academics. NCAA Division I Presidential Forum - increased presidential engagement. Student-athlete, faculty athletics representative, senior woman administrator and Council chair added to the Board of Directors. 2015 NCAA Division I Strategic Summit - Recap 54 university presidents, athletics administrators and student-athletes representing all divisions. Charge: Discuss current challenges and develop strategic principles. Organized themselves into four strategic planning groups. Agreed on strategic principles that were then endorsed by the Board of Directors. Engaging the Division I governance structure in operationalizing principles. Board, Presidential Forum, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Council and Committee on Academics.

NCAA Division I Strategic Agenda Principles and Commitments Developed at the Summit. 1.Reassessing student-athlete time demand. 2.Preparing student-athletes for a career and life after sport. 3.Helping student-athletes translate their skills. 4.Appropriate access to information about professional athletics careers.

Council’s September Meeting Areas of emphasis: –Initial review of 70 legislative proposals (autonomy, Council and conference submitted). –Time demands. –Finalizing 2015-16 and 2016-17 Council strategic agenda. o Next four slides demonstrate draft initiatives for Council review in September.

Faculty Athletics Representative Council/Governance Representation After initial Council and standing committees were populated, Council has worked to foster greater faculty athletics representative (FAR) engagement. –Nonvoting FARs added to NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee and NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee. –NCAA Division I Nominating Committee vice chair – FAR.
