Promotions

What do you get out of promoting? Attend more CAP events. Rank respect. Leadership opportunities.

CAP Events As a C/AB, you can attend squadron meetings and Basic Cadet School, and that's about it. When you promote, you open the door for yourself to many new activities within Civil Air Patrol. Promote to attend events like Encampment (C/Amn), NCOS (C/SrA), COS (C/2dLt), and IACE (C/Capt).

Rank Respect You may think of rank respect as nothing more than saluting an officer and saying good evening sir/mam. Rank respect works both up and down the chain of command.

A Cadet Airman Basic will look up to you as someone they can learn from. Rank Respect Real C/AB

A Cadet Captain will see the Airman insignia on your collar and immediately recognize you as a more experienced cadet. Rank Respect

Leadership Opportunities The more stripes you have on your collar, the more people want you to be the one in charge. Cadets are much more likely to earn staff positions when they have achieved Cadet Staff Sergeant or higher. Why? CAP rank is not just a way to decide who gives the orders and who follows them. It is a way to show experience, motivation, and knowledge of leadership qualities.

How do I promote? There are five steps to promoting in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program 1.Leadership Test 2.Aerospace Test 3.Drill Test 4.Physical Fitness Test 5.Review Board

Leadership Test Open your book titled Leadership for the 21st Century: Volume 1 Read Chapter 1 Take a 25 question test on Chapter 1

Aerospace Test You will be tested on one of the six aerospace modules for every promotion from C/A1C to C/CMSgt You can test on the modules in any order you like. You will NOT be required to take an aerospace test for your first promotion.

Drill Test The drill test includes basic stationary and marching drill movements that you have been taught. You will also have to perform a report in and report out.

Cadet Physical Fitness Test (CPFT) You must pass the CPFT every time you want to promote. To promote, you need to finish either the mile run or the shuttle run in time, and you must pass two of push ups, sit ups, and sit & reach. Your requirements to pass are based on your gender, age, and grade. They can be found in the Cadet Super Chart.

Cadet Physical Fitness Test (CPFT)

Review Board The final step towards earning your promotion to Cadet Airman is to report for a review board. You will be asked the following: Information in Chapter 1 of your leadership book Aerospace moment Your reasons for wanting to promote Your goals for yourself in CAP / What you plan to get out of CAP

Review Board No one is going to set up your review board for you. You have to get a review board request, fill it out with your information, and get it signed by your flight commander, first sergeant, and cadet commander.

Congratulations You just went through the entire promoting process and are now ready to pin on your Airman stripes! When you are called up to the front of the room, use the same reporting procedures as with your drill test and your review board.
