4. GOVERNOR ROBERT DINWIDDIE Dinwiddie wants to secure the Ohio River Valley for the Virginia colony and England In order to do this, he needed a detailed map of the area He organized a scouting party to map the area and tell the French that England controlled the Ohio River Valley

5. GEORGE WASHINGTON  Washington was put in charge of the scouting party.  If Washington encountered the French his orders were to deliver a message to them.  He was not to fight the French

AFTERMATH  After the massacre, the French attacked Washington and captured him  They force Washington to sign a “confession” where he took the blame for the murder of Jumonville  Washington said that he had no idea what he was signing since it was in French  He says that the French were to blame, not him.
