Did parents have to pay? What happened if pupils were naughty? Which school rules did they have? Was it easy being a teacher? What were Victorian classrooms like? Which equipment did they use?

Victorian parents were expected to pay something for their children’s education. Free schools asked parents to make a regulate donation to help pay the teachers and buy books.

One word sums up Victorian school discipline: STRICT. People thought it was wrong to be too kind to children even at home in case they took advantage and learned bad ways.

The school rules in Victorian Times were: To behave respectfully to the mistress, managers and visitors and to be reverent to their betters, both in school and whenever they meet them elsewere.

Some people say that in Voctorian Times teachers had a good job and were respected by everyone. But this was not always so, and for many teachers life was very hard.

Some modern schools still use nineteenth century buildings but there is a big difference in how the rooms are used. Early Victorian classrooms were oftenly in homes, halls, churches or barns.

Unlike the bright tables of today, Victorian school desks were made of dark varnished wood. Often they had lifting lids, with space for books inside.

We liked a lot looking up information about this topic we learned many things like teachers hit children if they learned bad manners or if they have spelling mistakes

Agus: I liked working in this group, we talked a lot but we finished in time. Zoe: I would work with this group again because we made a complete presentation and we worked properly even if we talked a lot. Lucas: I would work with tis group again even if sometimes we talked a little bit, but I still think that we've done a great work. Guillermo: I would like to work with this group again because we made a proper work even if we talked a lot.
