4 MASTER OF ANALYSIS …limited written sources of information on the Vikings exist. Many of the prevailing documents are flawed because the were authored by foreigners, people who did not speak the language, or people who did not actually witness the events they were writing about. Misinterpretations by authors signify how the Vikings were misunderstood. In addition, some were biased toward the religion and practices of the Vikings. For example, this is displayed in the poem, “Beowulf” written down by Christian monks. Throughout the epic poem, Christian religion and ideas about God are infused in the text. This document demonstrates the common view of Christians that the Norse religion was false, which undermined the Vikings Their topic was the Religion and Reputation of Vikings.

6 CONCLUSION CONNOISSEUR Viking warfare was defined by the weapons they used which included offensive and defensive weapons; some of which are: spears, axes, swords, shields, armor, and helmets. Because of their brutal fighting style, fighting was the way of life for Vikings and they were extremely proficient at it. Using extraordinary tactics, along with advanced weaponry, the Vikings were extremely successful in the many battles in which they were engaged. Even in defeat, individual warriors achieved honor by reaching Valhalla. (Title: The Fight to Valhalla).

7 TRANSITION WIZARD  To start, the need for protection during the Viking era fabricated the importance of defensive weapons…  Not only was the shield an important defensive weapon, but also the chainmail armor and helmet made an imprint in Viking culture  Besides defensive weapons, offensive weapons were key components in Vikings lifestyle.  Like the helmet and chainmail armor of the defensive weapons, offensive weapons expressed the wealth and status of their owner.  In summation, the aggressive nature of the Vikings caused the need for instruments in warfare.
