2 What is CHRISTIANITY? Christianity is religion based upon the teachings and miracles of Jesus of Nazareth. Christianity teaches that there is only one God in all existence, that created everything from the beginning of creation. JB

3 Where Did Christianity Originate?
Christianity originated in the city of Jerusalem in present day Israel. Jesus Christ was the founder of Christianity, and grew up in a small town called Bethlehem, just a couple miles southwest of where Christianity originated. It later moved over, and began in Britain in the late 2nd century AD. JB

4 What Is Anglo Saxon A Germanic inhabitant of England between the 5th century and the Norman Conquest. 449AD is when Anglo Saxon started Danish invaded England and decided to stay there for the winter. Anglo Saxon king Alfred the Great defeated the Danish invaders, and unified the English and under his rule the culture flourished. ZR

5 Anglo Saxon Religion Anglo-Saxon were pagans and they worshiped many gods, which means they are polytheistic. Paganism represents a wide variety of traditions that emphasize reverence for nature. BO

6 Arrival of Christianity
Roman Britain was a very diverse with merchants and soldiers from all over came and visited Britain, so we will never know who exactly introduced Christianity to England. BO

7 Christianity Effects On Anglo Saxon
Christianity effected Anglo Saxon by giving the pagans something to look forward to instead of just looking forward to dying and the devil. Holt McDougal, Literature: British Literature Grade 12 ZR

8 Monks Monasteries helped spread the word of Christianity. The monks traveled the country side converting villages. Which was different from the stationary monastic community that they’ve had in the past. BO

9 Christianity Take Over
In AD 313, the Emperor Constantine made Christianity legal and for the first time, they were allowed to openly worship. Churches were quickly built not just in Rome but throughout the empire. In AD 391, the worship of other gods was made illegal. BO
