THE EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS OF A WIKI

BENEFITS and FLEXIBILITY Classrooms Students can use wikis as platforms for collaborative problem solving; group laboratory reports; "WebEssays" (essays that combine images, text, and hyperlinks); classroom writing projects; and the creation of a class "textbook." Basically, wikis can be used to support any type of collaborative student project. Professional Development Wikis are handy tools for planning workshops or conferences. Trainers can post documents and other resources at the wiki prior to the workshop and have participants create and post their own notes during the event. Later, participants can return to the wiki to further reflect on what they've learned. Administrative Uses Administrators can leverage wikis to allow teachers, technology staff, and others help create and edit policy documents.

BENEFITS and FLEXIBILITY con’t Wikispaces Easy to use and easy to adopt for all kinds of audiences. The tools are simple so that you can focus on building content, talking with other members, and growing your community. Freedom Gives groups the freedom to publish pages that are long- lived, regularly updated, and built by many contributors. Openness Wikispaces is built to work anywhere, anytime with a web browser and an Internet connection. Members can create pages and spaces without undue restrictions or rules. Guests can edit pages without creating an account. Wiki pages are fully internationalized, so you can contribute content in any language.

Pedagogical Classroom Use of wikis I think WIKIS promotes student learning along with a teachers ACTIONS!

Teacher actions promoting student learning “While there is no formula that will guarantee learning for every student in every context, there is extensive, well-documented evidence about the kinds of teaching approaches that consistently have a positive impact on student learning. This evidence tells us that students learn best when teachers: Create a supportive learning environment Encourage reflective thought and action Enhance the relevance of new learning Facilitate shared learning Make connections to prior learning and experience Provide sufficient opportunities to learn Inquire into the teaching–learning relationship.”
