CATCHING FIRE

 BORN IN 1963 IN NEW JERSEY  SHE NOW LIVES IN CONNECTICUT  USED TO BE A WRITER FOR CHILDREN’S TELEVISION SHOWS  EARNED HER M.F.A. IN DRAMATIC WRITING

 I believe the protagonist in this book is Katniss the main character and the narrator.  She is challenged with making a decision on either being with Gale or Peeta.  She is the victor of the 74 th hunger games.  The 75 th hunger games has a twist, bringing back previous victors, and she is chosen.

 I believe the antagonist in this book is the Capitol.  The Capitol is the government in Panem over the 12 districts.  The Capitol is the antagonist because they create situations for Katniss, if she chooses one the other will be killed in the end.  They don’t like Katniss because she has been causing uprisings in the other 12 districts.

 My Favorite character is Finnick Odair.  He is a victor of the 65 th hunger games.  He has also been chosen in the Quarter Quell as the victor from district 4 to fight in the 75 th hunger games.  In the arena he creates and alliance with Katniss and Peeta, which was unexpected.

 My least favorite character is President Snow.  He is the president in the Capitol and over all 12 districts.  He wants to kill off Katniss but she has earned a great respect from the people of Panem, so he wont kill her and just throw obstacles at her during the book.

 In the beginning they introduce most of the main characters that take part in this book.  Katniss – Main character  Prim – Little sister of Katniss  Gale – Hunting friend of Katniss  Peeta – Katniss’s fake boyfriend/husband  Haymitch – Mentor for Katniss in the hunger games  President Snow – President of Panem

 At every 25 th year of the hunger games it’s called a Quarter Quell.  A Quarter Quell is when there is a twist to the hunger games.  The 75 th hunger games brings back victors from previous years.  Katniss is chosen along with Peeta and they are put into the arena to fight to the death until there is 1 person standing.

 The games begin with Katniss meeting up with Finnick and creating an alliance.  Throughout the games Finnick risks his own life to save Peeta’s life.  Katniss tries to protect Peeta and the main goal of this years hunger games is to make Peeta the victor because he has more to live for.  They discover that the arena is like a clock.  At every hour a life-threatening event takes place in the arena and moving around clock-wise.

 During the games the arena/force field has been destroyed by Beetee.  Katniss, Peeta, Finnick, and Beetee all escape into a hovercraft.  Plutarch Heavensbee, which is part of the Capitol, has arranged for the hovercraft and to help them escape to District 13.  District 13 has been rumored it got destroyed because of uprisings it created.

 Katniss, Peeta, Finnick, and Beetee all escape to district 13.  Gale has met up with Katniss on the hovercraft and let her know District 12 has been bombed.  Gale saved Prim and her mother during the attack.  The book is ended with a cliffhanger because there is 1 last book in this series that is not out yet.

 The book takes place in Panem.  The hunger games takes place in an arena closed off by a force field.  Katniss lives in district 12, along with Gale and Peeta  Finnick lives in district 4.

 The average life span of a relationship is three years.  55% of wives and 70% of husbands who admitted being unfaithful reported that their spouses did not know of the affair.  50% of all first marriages, 70% of second marriages, 90% of subsequent marriages will end up in divorce.  Even in happy marriages, more than 80% of the time, it is the wife who raises marital issues while the husband tries to avoid discussing them.  Only 10% of people who leave marriages end up marrying the person with whom they had an affair.  In an argument when your heart rate goes over 100 beats a minute, you are incapable of hearing what your partner is trying to tell you.

 In a survery of 124 people, 30% said they can talk to their partner about anything.  The other 70% said they either argue over simple things or its impossible to talk to their partner without conflict.
