Albania, Guinea, Malawi (in 2005)

4 Environment Education Task Team  We belong to the UK Scout Association  Each country has its own National Scout Organisation  They all belong to WOSM… W orld O rganization of the S cout M ovement  World Scout Bureau – six regional offices and central office in Geneva  World Scout Committee  Every 3 years there is a World Scout Conference HOW DOES WORLD SCOUTING WORK?

7 Environment Education Task Team WORLD ENVIRONMENT BADGE… WOSM AND THE ENVIRONMENT  Badge for all Scouts around the world  What does the word ‘environment’ mean today?…  Similar in concept to the World Conservation Badge but with focus on what ‘environment’ means today

8 Environment Education Task Team The environment is central to the Scout Programme and a key element of developing good citizens of the world. ENVIRONMENTAL PRINCIPLES AND AIMS Scouts actively engage in educational programmes to make informed choices about the environment, people and society - choices that reflect Scouting's Promise and Law. Scouting provides opportunities to experience and connect with the natural world. PRINCIPLES

9 Environment Education Task Team AIMS ENVIRONMENTAL PRINCIPLES AND AIMS Scouts are taking actions to ensure: 1. The most suitable environmental practices are used. 2. The risk of chemicals to people, plants and animals are minimised 3. People are able to respond to natural disasters. Scouts are working towards a world where: 1. People and natural systems have clean water and clean air. 2. Sufficient natural habitat exists to support native species. 3. People are prepared for environmental hazards.

12 Environment Education Task Team WORLD ENVIRONMENT BADGE  Will be launched at the World Scout Conference in South Korea, July 2008  January to March 2008 – testing phase  5 th Tynemouth are one of two test groups in the UK  Testing will be recognised by WOSM!
