1 Unity I dreamt I stood in a studio And watched two sculptors there. The clay they used was a young child’s mind And they fashioned it with care. One was a teacher – the tools she used Were books, music, and art. The other, a parent, worked with guiding hand, And a gentle, loving heart. Day after day, the teacher toiled with touch That was deft and sure. While the parent labored by her side And polished and smoothed it o’er. And when at last, their task was done They were proud of what they had wrought. For the things they had molded into the child Could neither be sold or bought. And each agreed they would have failed If each had worked alone. For behind the teacher stood the school And behind the parent, the home.

10 Long Term Assignments These are given the night before they are due It is a long term commitment to time that begins at 9:30 pm and ends at 11:50 pm or later It is important that the whole family is involved in the project. It is imperative that at least one family member races to Wal-Mart/Target for poster board, and that at least one family member ends up in tears (does not have to be the student.) One parent needs to stay up and complete the project. The other parent needs to call the school and leave a message that the student is out sick.
