The Moon and it’s Phases What are the Motions of the moon?

Motions of the moon Rotation on its axis is 27 1/3 days Revolution around the earth takes 27 1/3 days Moon revolves around the Earth at 3,500km/h

Moon and the Earth Apogee is when the moon is farthest from Earth( 405,000 km to 407,000 km) Perigee is when the moon is closest to the Earth ( 360,000 km to 370,000 km)

What causes the Moon's phases 1) the Moon revolving around the Earth, and 2) the Moon reflecting sunlight towards the Earth. Half of the Moon is always lit, not just the portion we see

The Phase of the Moon Since we only see the lit portion of the Moon that is facing Earth, we see a Moon phase. There are eight phases that the moon goes through and they always occur in the same order. The phases of the Moon are: 1) New Moon, 2) Waxing Crescent, 3) First Quarter, 4) Waxing Gibbous, 5) Full Moon, 6) Waning Gibbous, 7) Last Quarter, 8) Waning Crescent, and back to the New Moon.

Phases of the moon vocabulary Waxing: when the moon is becoming more visible Waning: when the moon is becoming less visible Crescent phase: phase when less than half the moon is visible Gibbous phase: phase when more than half the moon is visible
