Course Description Students in this course study in deep the dietary management of acute diseases, in which the diet plays an important role in the treatment, relieving or in the prevention of those diseases. covers the role of nutrition in the treatment of metabolic stress cases (e.g. burns, surgery, injuries) and the metabolic changes that occurs after exposure to a metabolic stress stimulus (e.g. the production and functions of free radicals, cytokines and acute- phase proteins). The practical part of the course include presenting some class-case studies and hospital visits to teach the student on how to obtain the information from the medical record, analyse it, and conduct a nutritional report.

6. Absence from classes Full attendance and participation are essential to the successful completion of this course and the material being offered. With this in mind, it is also understood that situations do come up that make it necessary to miss classes occasionally. Students must make arrangements with the instructor prior to the class if they know they need to be gone during part or all of one of the classes. In case of an emergency, students must notify the instructor and/or their academic advisor as soon as possible once they know they will not be attending. A 25% absence will counted as incomplete.
