3 “Simeon”: One who hears or one who obeys

4 1.He was controlled by the Holy Spirit “Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him…

5 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required…” Luke 2:25-27

6 What does it mean to be controlled by the Holy Spirit? A. Led by the Spirit B. Taught by the Word of God C. Obedient to the Will of God

7 Who or what is controlling my life?

8 2. He was prepared to die “Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:” Luke 2:28-29

10 “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” 2 Tim 4:6-7

11 3. He cared about the lost “For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.” v.30-32

12 Jesus = The Light of Salvation Christmas is the great example of the generosity of God.

13 4. He blessed others by sharing the Word of God “The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother:

14 "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.” V.33-35

15  Other people will be blessed when you share with them the Word of God.

16 “How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:14
