22 ► I Can is a community-based program designed to help empower Canadian children, youth and their families through technology, learning, and community. ► Over 260,000 children and youth were assisted through I Can community programs since 2002.

24 We volunteer…. We volunteer…. ► Microsoft’s employee volunteer program allows Microsoft Canada employees to volunteer in their community during regular work hours. Each employee is encouraged to take 5 days or 40 hours a year to volunteer in the community.

26 The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada ► The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada is the national charity for Microsoft Canada ► In 2004, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada were the first Canadian organization to receive a Microsoft Unlimited Potential (UP) grant, a new global initiative aimed at providing technology skills to under-privileged youth through community-based technology learning centers. ► In cash and software, the Boys and Girls Clubs received a $1.75 million donation, which will be used to provide training for more than 200,000 children over the next three years.

27 ► In August 2002, Microsoft & Bill Gates were awarded the Louis Braille Gold Medal for the contribution to the development of the Children’s Discovery Portal. Canadian National Institute for the Blind ► The Children’s Discovery Portal is the world’s first Internet portal for children who are blind and visually impaired. ► The portal is part of Microsoft Canada’s $2.5 million commitment to the CNIB’s campaign to digitize it’s library.

28 Be Web Aware ► Microsoft Canada launched the “Be Web Aware” campaign in 2004 in partnership with Bell Canada and Media Awareness Network. ► “Be Web Aware” is a national, bilingual public education program on Internet safety to ensure young Canadians benefit from the Internet, while being safe and responsible in their online activities.
