2 What is a Rant? (according to Memorial U)
A sister to the soliloquy and distant cousin of debate, a rant is an individual self-expression, or more simply put, an opinion. It is something that the “ranter” thinks should be known, and they’re not afraid to tell you about it. A rant is usually done with wit and humor, at the same time expressing a position, a stance, or just something that you think is important. The viewers should be entertained, but at the same time are left with a lasting impression about the topic.

3 Hey! Listen to me! A rant is a speech or text that does not present a well-researched and calm argument. It is typically an attack on an idea, a person, or an institution, and very often lacks proven claims. Also, it clearly gives an opinion.

4 What makes a good rant? A rant is usually done with wit and humor, at the same time expressing a position, a stance, or just something that you think is important. A good rant has the following components...

5 Clear Structure Intro -establish the topic of the rant
Middle – provides a challenging statement which makes the listener/viewer think...the “AHA!” moment End – Wrap up with a statement that leaves the listener/viewer with an understanding of the topic.

6 A topic that is current What's the point in ranting about old news? To be really interesting, the topic should be current. Even better: the topic should be a controversial one. That way, your listeners will be more likely to react to it.

7 Utilizes facial expressions
Facial expressions are as important as the content. They give insight on how you feel, what you think about the topic, etc.

8 Good intonation Just like facial expressions, intonation is a great way to make your listeners know how you are feeling, what you are thinking, etc., without saying a word.

9 Clear and concise message
Don't linger or talk just for the sake of talking. Get to the point, and make it so we get the point.
