2. Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.— Amen.

3. The Book of Proverbs Chapter 1:8-19 A Warning to Stay Away from the Wrong Crowd!

4. Prov 22:4, “The reward of humility (A) and the fear of the LORD (B), are riches, honor and life (C).” (A+B) = (C)

5. Vs. 8, “Fear of the Lord”, is linked with “Authority vested in parents.”

6. The Father is to inculcate discipline (MUSAR) in the learning of Bible Doctrine. The mother teaches (TORAH) them the Word.

7. Timothy learned from his mother. 2 Tim 1:5; 3:14-15; See also 1 Thes 2:7-8

8. This gives honor to the first commandment with promise. Ex 20:12; Duet 5:16; Eph 6:2-3

9. God puts His stamp of authority behind the teaching of the parents by saying, “hear it” and “do not forsake it.” Cf. Prov 6:20

10. In vs. 9 the student who listens to Bible doctrine is going to grow up to be a wonderful adult.

11. The “crown” signifies power and life while the “necklace” signifies guidance and protection. That is what the Word of God is to the believer.

12. The wise student is repeatedly promised guidance and protection in this book. Cf., Prov 2:8, 10-11; 3:3; 4:6, 11

13. “Crown” and “gems” are also symbols of your eternal rewards. 1 Cor 3:10-15; 1 Thes 2:19; 2 Tim 4:8; James 1:12; Rev 2:10; 1 Peter 5:4; Rev 3:11

14. Vs. 10-14, Stay away from the enticement of the world; it’s the wrong crowd to be hanging out with.

15. “Sinners”, חַטָּא – CHATTA People who make sin some form of habit.

16. “Do not consent!” This is our one rule against all manifold enticement. Deut 13:6-8; 1 Kings 13:15-19; Cf Prov 7:5-23

17. Consent constitutes sin! Remember, Satan can only tempt us. When we consent to the temptation it becomes sin. James 1:13-15, Cf. Rom 7:14-25

18. In vs. 11 the enticement always begins subtly, but then soon the demand rises, in vs. 14.

19. They seek immediate wealth outside the limits of law rather than the deferred wealth that comes through the development of character within law, Cf. Prov 16:29.

20. Vs. 12, the promise of not being discovered, the covering up of the acts of sin, which is further enticement to participate; “no one will see”.

21. Vs. 13, The counterfeit to THE LIFE offered by Christ.

22. Satan takes advantage of us due to our ignorance of his devices and Bible Doctrine. 2 Cor 2:11

23. 1 Cor 15:33-34, “Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.”

24. Only when we run from this evil will we have safety. 1 Cor 6:18; 10:14; 1 Tim 6:11; 2 Tim 2:22

25. Psa 119:114-115, “You are my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Your word. Depart from me, evildoers, that I may observe the commandments of my God.”

26. Vs. 14 is the communist manifesto.

27. Vs. 15-19, The third sermon, an exhortation to not associate with the sinner.

28. Vs. 15, cf. 4:14, is to be involved in an almost irreversible course of action that quickly involves you in sin and bloodshed.

29. Vs. 16, the 1 st argument. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Two of the seven abominations of God. Prov 6:17-18; cf Isa 59:7

30. Vs. 17 the 2 nd argument. How sin lays in wait for the unsuspecting believer, the one without Bible Doctrine and discernment.
