2 A Collaboration for Health in PNG A review of a unique approach to supporting in-country health service delivery through a public, private and faith based partnership.

3 CHPNG - committed to the health of people in PNG for over 10 years The CHPNG is a philanthropic initiative of a consortium of Australian pharmaceutical companies committed to improving the health and well being of Papua New Guineans Working within public private partnerships for health Informal Consortium held in 2001 led to formation of CHPNG in 2003

4 Recognising the issues Range of prominent public health issues around HIV. Concern on expanding epidemic in PNG. Group of like- minded Australian companies wanting to address the HIV epidemic. International roundtable. PNG Mission: Build partners and identify needs PNG Catholic Health Service Three Initiatives to start: 1.Establish HIV day care centres 2.Strengthen capacity of HIV healthcare workers 3.Support the labour ward in Port Moresby.

5 Clear aims of the Consortium Agreement create focus Engage and learn from others in the region Understand the factors that affect access to care Encourage cooperation among all health providers Help develop healthcare capacities and systems Link prevention, de-stigmatisation and legal protection

7 Creating sustainable capacity Ensure discrete, measurable projects that can be replicated and are independently audited to ensure best outcomes Monitor local environment to adapt as needed Objectives aligned with partners in Australia & PNG CHPNG member company active involvement
