3 Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston on January 19th, 1809.
Both his parents were actors but died when Edgar was a young boy. Edgar Allan Poe’s mother. Elizabeth He was adopted by a man named John Allan who became his “new” father.

4 Edgar Allan Poe attended the University of Virginia where he did well in school and began to make a name for himself. Edgar wanted to continue going to the University but John Allan didn’t approve of it. So eventually Edgar was kicked out of his “new” fathers home. Later Edgar moved to Boston and published his first book Tamerlane and Other Poems

5 Edgar soon left the army, and began to publish more and more books.
Edgar Allan Poe also joined the Army while he lived in Richmond, Virginia. He attended West Point but soon found out that being in the service wasn’t for for him. Edgar soon left the army, and began to publish more and more books. He was involved in many different published magazines in his life but The Broadway Journal was by far the best. Edgar Allan Poe’s last home in Richmond, Virginia. The home was called Moldavia

6 Of all of Edgar Allan Poe’s works the most honored, and famous was a poem he called The Raven.
The Raven was a tale about a man who is pestered by the ghost of his lost love and a Raven. The most famous thing about the poem was the way it was it was written.

7 Edgar Allan Poe married and became the editor at a prestigious magazine. He lived in a big house and lived his life for those years well. But all his success was short lived because soon Edgar Allan Poe’s life began to fall apart. His wife whom he married before he had his success died of a rare illness. Soon Edgar felt like he had nobody in his life for whom he cared for. He moved from his big house to a small cottage in Fordham, Virginia and he lived here for three years before his death.

8 Edgar Allan Poe soon went missing from his cottage after a some lectures he had given in Virginia and was found weeks later in Baltimore. When they found Edgar, he was unconscious and barely breathing. He was taken to a hospital where he slipped in and out of consciousness, and seemed to be going mad. Edgar Allan Poe died on October 7th, 1849 after saying a short prayer for himself

9 INTERSTING FACTS Edgar Allen Poe married his 13 year old cousin in 1836. A copy of Edgar’s first book is worth more than 200,000 dollars. The facts around his death are still a mystery, and many theories have sprung up since his death. Edgar Allan Poe was a respected gentleman, considered shy, but very mysterious. Edgar Allan Poe is considered the first author of the famous Detective Tales. Poe’s narrators in his works admit to using opium but Poe himself never used opium. Edgar’s middle name was misspelled in articles, newspapers, and movies. The misspelling was blamed on him and he was accused of not knowing how to spell his own name.
