2 UNESCO United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation A UNESCO World Heritage Site is a place (such as forest, mountain, lake, desert, monument, building, complex, or city) that is listed by the UNESCO as of special cultural or physical / natural significance. A World Heritage Site is a cultural or natural conserved site that the world community regards as having outstanding universal value

9 Ayutthaya - Thailand Why is this a World Heritage Site? This area is just outside Bangkok and has been declared a WHS in 1991. It was the second Siamese capital after Sukhothai. These are prang or towers and the area has large monasteries. This is what remains after the Burmese destroyed it in the 18 th Century

10 So Bangkok….. From what you know about Bangkok, should it be declared a WHC? Use the 10 statements, read through and decide if any of them can be applied to the city. Overall should Bangkok become a UNESCO WHC? Explain your decision.
