S4 - 6 (2013-2016) Chemistry Curriculum

Science education STSE=science-technology-society-environment

Curiosity & interest in science Personal integrity Open-minded attitude Awareness of the impact of chemistry … Phenomena, facts, principles, concepts, laws and theories Vocabulary, terminology and textual conventions Application of chemistry Scientific investigation Scientific thinking, method, investigation Problem solving, decision making Practical work …

ProgrammeOne elective subjectRequirements Bachelor of Dental SurgeryBiology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Integrated Science Level 3 or above Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Science (double degree) Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Integrated Science Level 3 or above Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Health Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science, Integrated Science, or Physical Education Level 3 or above Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Chemistry or Combined Science with Chemistry component Level 3 or above Bachelor of NursingBiology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Integrated Science Level 3 or above HKU

ProgrammeOne elective subjectRequirements Bachelor of Chinese Medicine Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Integrated Science Level 3 or above Bachelor of PharmacyChemistry or Combined Science with Chemistry component Level 3 or above Bachelor of Business Administration (Information Systems) Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science, Integrated Science, or ICT Level 3 or above Bachelor of ScienceBiology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Integrated Science Level 3 or above Bachelor of Biomedical Science Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science with Biology / Chemistry component Level 3 or above HKU

ProgrammeOne elective subjectRequirements EngineeringBiology, Chemistry, Physics or Combined Science Level 2 or above MedicineBiology, Chemistry, Physics or Combined Science Level 3 or above NursingBiology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Integrated Science Level 3 or above PharmacyChemistryLevel 3 or above ScienceBiology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Integrated Science Level 3 or above Chinese MedicineBiology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Integrated Science Level 3 or above CU

Chemistry Curriculum Compulsory part (198 teaching hrs) –Paper I (2.5 hrs) Elective part (52 teaching hrs) –Paper II (1 hr, 1 question on each topic) –*Industrial Chemistry (26 hrs) –*Analytical Chemistry (26hrs) –Materials Chemistry SBA

Combined Science

Rationale To meet the needs of students with a strong interest in science  For students taking two science subjects, one of them is chosen from the three specialised subjects of Physics, Chemistry or Biology  The students will study part of the other two subjects by a combined approach to build a broad and comprehensive knowledge in science

Elective Part Compulsory Part Chemistry Part of CS Chemistry How is Combined Science (CS) related to Bio/Chem/Phy? Subject Content of CS’s Chem part is about ½ that of Chemistry

BioChemPhy Biology Part Chemistry Part Physics Part Combined Science (Phy, Chem) Combined Science (Bio, Phy) Combined Science (Chem, Bio) Taking 2 parts only Our school offers this combination only!

Combined Science (Chem, Bio) + Phy – for students wishing to take 2 elective subjects in the Science Education KLA Combined Science – for students wishing to take 2 elective subjects in the Science Education KLA Possible subject combinations: Broad and comprehensive learning in science + Econ / Geog / Lit. in Eng / ICT / History / Ch. Hist /BAFS …. Room for learning in other KLAs

(56 marks)

structured questions (56 marks)
