2 General agreement reached within Boulder developers (and EMC GSI group). A code management plan is being finalized and will be distributed for review (including John Derber in EMC) before the end of August 2009. Boulder GSI developers meetings will be held regularly. GSI Regression Test Suite Based on JME scripts (ksh, perl) Currently includes 6 test cases (4 from EMC), easy to extend Cases selected through configure file Verify all test cases and then produce a summary Will include full capability of the EMC’s GSI regression tests. Works well on NCAR IBM (bluefire) - porting to Linux 6

GSI Code Release GSI Community Release Timetable TasksTime Note Beta release (Q1FY09) Jun 2009 Friendly users only (through the GSI website) First release v1.0 (Q1FY09) Sep 2009 Second release v2.0 (Q4FY09) Apr 2010 (or TBD) With user support *DTC provides help desk for GSI. John Derber will be contacted for EMC assistance only when necessary. With user support and residential tutorial (June, 2010) *Testing for regional applications will be critical before release 7

GSI Community Support GSI Community Support Timetable TasksTime Note Instruction session Jun 2009 One and half hour session during the 10 th WRF Users Workshop (Hui, Ming, Laurie) LectureJul 2009 Tutorial 28-31Jun 2010 (Tentative) One hour lecture during the WRF-DA tutorial (Hui, Ming). Residential tutorial and hands-on practice session. Tutorial topics are under discussion between John and DTC (will be finalized within 1- 2 weeks?). Potential speakers will be contacted once the topics and schedule are finalized (within two weeks). 8

Collaborative Efforts 10 Short-term: 1.2010 tutorial (we already work together on the planning) 2.Users' guide (we got corrections and comments on the first draft from Russ and Wan-shu, through John) 3.Code management plan (John agreed to review it) Long-term: 1.GSI Scientific committees EMC-GMAO committee? (include Boulder members or observers) Boulder GSI committee (need a member from EMC) 2.A common development plan 3.Share information on GSI development wiki Regular developer meetings GSI workshops and tutorials Regular updates, at least with new releases, for the users’ guide (need a member from EMC)
