1 Time of Love By Bailey, Sophia, Seung, and Radha

2 Culture at this time was expressed greatly in clothing, hairstyles, drugs, music and more. Drugs were a common getaway experience, which mainly included LSD and Marijuana. Drugs would be done in groups and viewed as a bonding social experience. Relaxed and out of the body experiences were expressed through taking and doing drugs. Their clothing greatly represented their freedom they hoped for in the world.

Meyers, M.D. The journal, which was published in 1968 explains the popular use of recreational drugs among hippies in Haight Ashbury, especially Marijuana that has been adopted by a significant fraction of the youthful subculture as a social drug. On the cover page, there is a status that describes hallucinatory use of drugs. The community, Haight Ashbury, had counter culture movement and was exposed to freedom and anti war, which allowed them to commonly apply the drugs within themselves.

5 Radical Clothing, Beneath the Diamond Sky by Barney Hoskyns This clothing item was worn by _ in Haight Ashbury. In the 1960’s, hippies dressed in a way that showcased their unique identities. They bought their clothes form second hand shops and flea markets. Hippies’ clothes mainly included ragged, tie-dye t-shirts and beads. According to them, wearing such unusual styles segregated them from the mainstream society and commercialism. Hippies thought that dressing in such a distinctive manner helped in forming their own hippie subculture. Latin American and Indian motifs and patters were commonly found themes of Hippy clothing.

6 Psychedelic Community Haight-Ashbury valued a sense of community in there street. This era was about acceptance, and loving all. People would gather at festivals to listen to live music, dance, take drugs, and connect with others about their beliefs. It was common in this time to live in bigger communities than on your own. Advertisements were used to gather the community for civil rights marches or invite people to concerts and drug parties so everyone in the community had the opportunity to join in.

7 This psychedelic bus named “Further” was owned by Ken Kesey who was known as “San Francisco's unofficial mayor”. He was a leader in the hippie movement of Haight Ashbury. These colorful psychedelic buses were very popular because they created a sense of community. They were painted colorfully on the inside and out due to the visuals it would give one when they were high on drugs. People would socialize as well as live on these buses. 8 The Happening on Sunset Strip, 1996,http://www.vintageconcertposters.comhttp://www.vintageconcertposters.com The Happening on Sunset Strip is a vintage poster produced in 1966 as an advertisement for a famous club that meant to spark interest in the hippies of Haight-Ashbury. The poster utilized multiple typefaces in varying sizes and shapes. This poster is colored monotone in shades of red and yellow, and has blemishes in the corners from being hung at one point. Visual culture on Haight Ashbury street manifested mostly through band posters and album covers. These forms all shared similar color palettes and subject matters, as well as implementing typefaces that were similar.
