1 Bell Ringer The odometer on Jordan’s car read 23,273 miles when he left on a trip and 23,650 miles when he returned. Jordan drove his car 6.5 hours on the trip. Based on the odometer readings, what was his average driving speed on the trip, in miles per hour? A. 53 B. 58 C. 60 D. 65 E. 67 23,650 – 23,273 = 377 miles ÷ 6.5 hours = 58 mph

2 Fractions, Decimals, and Percents
Converting and Ordering

3 A number that divides evenly into another number.
Factors A number that divides evenly into another number. Factors of 24 are 1,2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24. What are the factors of 12? 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12

4 Common Factor ♦ When two numbers have the same factor it is called a common factor. ♦ What are the factors of 12? 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 ♦ What are the factors of 18? 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18 ♦ The common factors are 1, 2, 3, and 6. ♦ The greatest common factor is 6!

5 Common Factors What are the common factors of 6 and 9? 6 = 1, 2, 3, = 1, 3, 9 The common factor is 3, so the GCF = 3 What are the common factors of 20 and 16? 20 = 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, = 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 The common factors are 2 & 4, so the GCF = 4

6 Simplest Form When the only common factor of the numerator and denominator is 1, the fraction is in simplest form. 3 1 3 ÷ = 4 1 4

7 How to Find the Simplest Form of a Fraction
Find the greatest common factor of the numerator and the denominator and divide both the numerator and the denominator by that number. 12 6 2 ÷ = 18 6 3

8 Convert a Fraction to a Decimal
Divide the numerator by the denominator! 3 Divide the top number by the bottom number!!! = 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75 4 8 = 8 ÷ 10 = 0.8 10

9 Convert a Decimal to a Percent
Move the decimal point 2 places to the right and add a percent (%) sign. If you need to, add a zero on the back to get the second decimal place. .546 = 54.6% .4 = 40% 3.56 = 356%

10 Convert a Percent to a Decimal
Move the decimal point 2 places to the left. If you need to, put a zero on the front. 24% = .24 15.36% = .1536 256% = 2.56 2% = .02

11 Convert a Decimal to a Fraction
Convert the decimal to fraction using tenths, hundredths, thousandths, etc. depending on the number of decimal places. Simplify. .18 = = .4 = = 18 9 100 50 4 2 10 5

12 Change all percents and fractions to decimals!
Ordering The easiest way to order fractions, decimals, and percents is to convert them to the same type of number. Change all percents and fractions to decimals!

13 Order from Least to Greatest!
.85, 23%, ⅗, .35, 57.5%, ⅔ Change them to decimals! .85, .23, .60, .35, .575, .66 Order them! .23, .35, .575, .60, .66, .85

14 Handy Dandy Chart Keep this handy dandy chart that I will graciously give you! Chart.docx
